AIRBNB IN MIAMI & MIAMI BEACH : AGREEMENT FOUND

Airbnb finally found an agreement with Miami-Dade County regarding the taxation of its units. Airbnb will collect occupancy taxes on behalf of the 6,800 hosts and remit it to Miami-Dade. Considering the successful past year, it's supposed to collect $8M from short term rentals. Miami is the fourth largest market for Airbnb after New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The deal consists in getting a 6% tax from the hosts in almost all the county. In Miami Beach Airbnb would only collect a 3% convention tax but not the 4% city bed tax. Be careful since this agreement doesn't prevent you from loosing your homestead exemption if you rent on Airbnb. I know some clients who had to pay back property taxes with a 50% penalty and a 15% interest rate because they rented their homesteaded condo.

It's easy to find a new restaurant opening in Miami. Restaurants are popping out everywhere ! We are very lucky on the gastronomic scene. This new restaurant opened where China Grill used to be. It is sophisticated and contemporary with some touches that remind the marine world. Personally, I loved the vaulted ceiling. Their specialties include grilled fish from the Mediterranean, lobsters and seafood. We ordered the Mediterranean Sea Bass, the Salmon Sautè and the Lobster Morsels. The food was delicious and prices are reasonable. You can also go there for happy hour to try their cocktails. Their Greek wine is good.
